Hiroyuki Murata, credited as 村田ひろゆき in Japanese, is a manga artist known for his work from the 1980s onward. Born in Saitama Prefecture, he made his debut in 1982 with the story Makkoki Blues, published in Young Magazine. His career is defined by series that capture specific facets of Japanese life, often with comedic and dramatic elements.

Murata is the original creator behind the manga Kōgyō Aika Volley Boys, which began serialization in 1989. This work was later adapted into an anime. He is similarly credited as the original creator of Korogashi Ryōta, a series that achieved significant success. Korogashi Ryōta, also known as Rolling Ryōta, was serialized in Manga Goraku starting in 1986 and was adapted into a live-action film in 1988, followed by an anime video release in 1990.

Beyond these two prominent titles, his body of work includes the manga Gabu Nomi Araya, serialized from 1994 to 1996 and later adapted for the screen, as well as other series such as Hogushiya-Shō, Dr. Saotome, and Mr. Neon. More recently, he was credited as the original creator and original character designer for the 1997 OVA The Monster Bus and as the original creator for the 2022 television series Shimobee, demonstrating a sustained career as a creator.
