Tsuyoshi Nakaima, born April 13, 1960, in Okinawa Prefecture, is a Japanese manga artist known for his extensive work in the sports genre. His early life was marked by a passion for baseball, a sport he played avidly through high school and college until a shoulder injury ended his athletic pursuits. Following this, he became an assistant to the established manga artist Akio Chiba, a formative experience that preceded his debut as an independent creator.
Nakaima is best known for creating the sumo-themed series Ucchare Goshogawara, which was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from 1988 to 1991 and collected in 12 tankōbon volumes. The series' significance was underscored by its recognition with the 1989 Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category. The work was also adapted into an original video animation (OVA) in 1991, establishing Nakaima as an original creator whose work was adapted for the screen.
