Gensho Sugiyama, also credited as Genshou Sugiyama, is a Japanese illustrator and original creator known primarily for his work in adult anime and game productions. Born on March 12 in Japan, he began his career studying animation at the renowned Studio Pierrot, a formative experience that led him to become a freelance animator and illustrator. Beyond his animation training, Sugiyama expanded his artistic skill set by studying clothing design at the Setsu Mode Seminar in 1992.

Sugiyama is most widely recognized as the original creator behind the anime OVA series Maids in Dream. Released in 2003, this two-episode adult anime lists Sugiyama in multiple key creative roles, including original work, original character design, and supervision. The project established his reputation within the adult genre, often referred to as eroge, a field in which he remains active. He has also provided character designs for the visual novels Maids in Dream and Fantasia, working in affiliation with the eroge company Orbit.

The scope of Sugiyama’s professional work extends significantly beyond anime and games. He has worked as a commercial illustrator for an advertising agency, handling assignments that include creating cover art for brochures for Kawasaki Heavy Industries and developing character studies for the Japanese office supply company Seika Note. In a notable departure from his usual style, he also designed the official mascot for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, a professional baseball team in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league.
