Ryō Hoshino

Description
Ryō Hoshino is a Japanese author known primarily as the original creator of the science fiction franchise The Third. The series began as a collection of light novels written by Hoshino, with illustrations provided by artist Nao Goto. The first of these novels was published in September 1999 by Fujimi Shobo under its Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, and the story was also serialized in Dragon Magazine. The series remained in publication for several years, spanning more than sixteen volumes.

Based on this original work, Hoshino is credited as the writer for a manga adaptation of The Third. This manga was illustrated by Ariko Ito and ran in Monthly Dragon Age magazine from 2005 to 2006, eventually being compiled into two volumes. Hoshino is also credited as the source material creator for the twenty-four episode anime television series The Third: The Girl with the Blue Eye. Produced by the studio Xebec and directed by Jun Kamiya, the anime adaptation aired on the Japanese satellite network WOWOW from April to October 2006. The series was later licensed for North American distribution. Hoshino is not documented as having any other significant or widely recognized original manga or anime works outside of The Third franchise.
