Kurimaru Mori

Description
Kurimaru Mori is the original creator of the manga Ajisai no Uta, which was adapted into an anime OVA released in 2004. Mori was born in Kagoshima Prefecture and was raised in Shizuoka Prefecture. After completing university studies, Mori made an official manga debut with Ajisai no Uta, known in English as Hydrangea Song, which was published in a special issue of Big Comic Original by Shogakukan in 1990. This series became Mori’s most significant success, with a serialization run lasting approximately twenty years.

The manga Ajisai no Uta is set in the Edo period and follows the daily life of a young boy named Kuritaro, his widowed father, and their spirited pet dog, Kurinosuke. The narrative frequently uses flashbacks to recall Kuritaro’s mother, who had a deep fondness for hydrangea flowers, which is the source of the series’ title. The tone of the work has been described as nostalgic, accessible, and focused on simple, everyday family experiences. In 2004, the story was adapted into a short anime OVA, with animation production by Group TAC and production by Soft on Demand. The anime credits Kurimaru Mori as the original creator. Beyond Ajisai no Uta, other known works by Kurimaru Mori include titles such as Mofumofu and Hey, Kurinosuke.
