Tooru Sakurai is a Japanese voice actor born on November 10, 1987, in Hyogo Prefecture. He is affiliated with the talent management firm Ken Production. His interest in voice acting began during his middle school years, inspired by the video games he played. He pursued this passion by entering a voice actor training school, School Duo, through an audition. Sakurai is a graduate of the Osaka Visual Arts Academy's voice actor department, having completed the program as part of its sixth intake in 2005, after which he joined his current agency.

Sakurai's early career in the late 2000s and early 2010s consisted of voicing numerous minor characters and background roles in a wide variety of anime television series. He gained his first major recurring role and significant industry attention in 2013 as Ichirou Komaba in the acclaimed farming-themed anime Silver Spoon. This was followed by another prominent supporting role in the long-running sports anime Haikyu!!, where he voices Takahiro Hanamaki, a player for the Aoba Johsai High team, a part he has played since 2014. The same year, he also voiced Karl Woodley in the Black Butler: Book of Murder OVA.

Sakurai has been active in the multimedia franchise Touken Ranbu, which began as a game in 2015. He voices several swords in the franchise, including the characters Yamabushi Kunihiro, Doudanuki Masakuni, and Tonbokiri, with the latter appearing in the 2017 anime adaptation Katsugeki Touken Ranbu. His film work includes roles in several major theatrical releases. He voiced a researcher in the 2013 film Patema Inverted and had a small part in The Idolm@ster Movie: Beyond the Brilliant Future! in 2014. In 2017, he played the character Allen in the film Kuroko's Basketball The Movie: Last Game. More recently, in 2021, he voiced the character Makoukan in the animated film The Deer King.

The year 2021 was particularly active for Sakurai, featuring him in prominent roles in two new adaptations of established properties. He was cast as Lee Pai-Long, a jiangshi (Chinese hopping vampire) who serves the Tao family, in the 2021 version of Shaman King, taking over the role from the original anime's voice actor. He was also announced as the voice of the antagonist Wadatsumi, a prideful and battle-loving member of the Teoti enemy group, in the anime series Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion Z. In 2018, he had provided the voice for the character Moore in the anime The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These.

Sakurai's skill set includes proficiency in the Kansai dialect, which is his native dialect, as well as judo and cooking.
