Ray Owens
Description
Ray Owens was an American voice actor known for his extensive work in English-language dubs of Japanese anime series and films during the 1960s through the 1980s. Born Clifford Raymond Owens, his career was centered on providing voices for characters in animated productions that were localized for North American audiences.
Owens contributed to the English adaptations of several notable anime features. In the 1969 film Puss in Boots, he voiced the characters Lucifer, a Guard, and Daniel. For the 1974 film Jack and the Beanstalk, he provided the voices for Prince Tulip and the Peddler. Beyond these films, Owens had a significant presence in anime television series. He was a key cast member in the religious educational series Superbook, where he voiced multiple roles across its run, including the character Superbook, Professor Fred Peeper, the Narrator in the second season, and God. His other prominent voice roles include Captain Silver in Animal Treasure Island, Rockor the Rock Giant in Horus: Prince of the Sun, and Dr. Elefun in the 1960s Astro Boy series. He also voiced Inspector Blooper in Gigantor.
