Tony Pope was an American voice actor recognized for his extensive work in animation, including significant contributions to English-language adaptations of anime. Born Anthony J. Pope on March 22, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio, he began his voice acting career after moving to Los Angeles in 1973. He was a student of the renowned voice actor Daws Butler, known for voicing Yogi Bear. Pope's career spanned over three decades until his death on February 11, 2004, from complications following leg surgery.

In the realm of anime, Pope is perhaps best known for his role as Papa in the series Hello Kitty's Paradise, a part that connected him with a broad audience of young viewers. He often worked under the pseudonym Anthony Mozdy, a name under which he performed several of his most prominent anime roles. One of his most acclaimed performances was as Colonel Shikishima in the Streamline Pictures dub of the landmark film Akira. He also provided the voice for the detective Shunsaku Ban in the 2001 film Metropolis. His other anime credits include General Revil in the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy, Leslie Arno in Mobile Suit Gundam F91, Sage Vishvamitra in Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, Kaishu Katsu in Rurouni Kenshin, and the powerful Digimon Zhuqiaomon in Digimon Tamers. He also had roles in series such as The Big O, S-CRY-ed, Vampire Princess Miyu, and The Adventures of Mini-Goddess.

While Pope was active in anime, he was also a highly prolific voice actor in American animation and other media. He is widely remembered for being the official voice of Goofy for eleven years, from 1977 to 1988, a role for which he earned 17 Gold and Platinum records and which he performed in the live-action/animation hybrid film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. His voice can also be heard on various attractions at Disneyland. Beyond Disney, his voice was featured in series like The Transformers as Wreck-Gar, as well as in SWAT Kats, Creepy Crawlers, and House of Mouse as Geppetto. He was also the original voice of the phenomenally popular Furby toy in 1998, providing its voice in English and five other languages. His extensive body of work included numerous voices for the JumpStart educational software series and video games such as Sam & Max Hit the Road, Diablo II, and Kingdom Hearts. Throughout his career, Pope's versatility allowed him to work consistently across different genres and formats, leaving a legacy of hundreds of character voices in film, television, and interactive media.
