Hans Hessling

Description
Hans Hessling was a German actor and voice actor, not an anime voice actor in the Japanese sense. His sole connection to anime appears to be providing the German voice for the character Nachbarsfarmer in the 1983 anime series The Yearling, based on the novel by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. This series, also known as Kojika Monogatari, is the only anime title associated with him in the available records.

Hessling's career was primarily in German film, television, theater, and dubbing. Born in Hamburg in 1903, he began his stage career in 1927 and went on to appear in numerous films and TV productions from the 1930s until the early 1990s. As a voice actor, his most notable and recurring role was providing the German voice for the titular character Asterix in the animated film adaptations of the popular French comics, including Asterix the Gaul, Asterix and Cleopatra, and Asterix Conquers America. He also dubbed the voices of famous actors such as James Cagney, Charlie Chaplin, and Burgess Meredith for the German versions of their films. In addition to his screen and dubbing work, Hessling was an active voice actor for radio dramas, contributing to over 100 productions for German public broadcasters and commercial labels like Europa, including well-known series such as The Three Investigators. He passed away in 1995 at the age of 91.
