Akina Nakamori

Description
Akina Nakamori is a Japanese entertainer whose primary and celebrated career is as a singer and actress, with her voice acting work representing only a small, sporadic part of her professional activities. Known as one of the defining idols of the 1980s, she achieved widespread fame through numerous chart-topping hits and a versatile musical style. Her forays into voice acting have been infrequent but notable, often leveraging her established fame.

Nakamori's first confirmed voice acting role was in the 1992 anime film Hashire Melos, where she lent her voice to the character Lysa. This film, based on the classic short story by Osamu Dazai, featured a prominent cast, including Kôichi Yamadera in the title role and Megumi Hayashibara. Following this debut, there was a long gap before she took on another anime role.

In the early 2000s, Nakamori voiced the iconic character Betty Boop in interactive pachinko machine games, specifically Betty Boop S in 2002 and CR Betty Boop in 2003, both produced by the company Sammy. This work, while not a traditional anime series or film, represents another instance of her character voice work.

After a significant hiatus of 33 years from her role in Hashire Melos, Nakamori returned to anime voice acting in 2025. She made a guest appearance in the television anime series Araiguma Karukarudan, an official spin-off of the classic series Rascal the Raccoon. In this series, she played the character "Vocal," a popular VTuber idol whose persona as a cute singer contrasted with Nakamori's own established image. The producer of the series explained that the casting was intended to create a surprising and interesting dynamic by having a legendary Showa-era idol voice a modern VTuber character. For this role, Nakamori expressed nervousness about the dubbing process, noting her concern with delivering fast-paced dialogue and her desire not to inconvenience the professional voice actors she was working with.

Due to the extremely limited scope of her voice acting credits, there are no notable recurring collaborations with specific directors or voice acting peers to report. Her contributions to the field are best characterized as special appearances by a major music icon rather than the work of a dedicated career voice actor. Her notable achievements in voice acting are therefore the roles themselves, which span from a 1992 anime film to a 2025 television series, marking a unique and sporadic voice acting filmography.
