Tatsuya Matsuno, known professionally as Taiki Matsuno, was a Japanese actor and voice actor born on October 16, 1967, in Shinagawa, Tokyo. He began his career as a child actor and voice actor, making his debut at the age of ten in the 1978 television anime The Adventures of the Little Prince, where he voiced the title role of the Little Prince. He was affiliated with the talent management firm Aoni Production for a significant portion of his career. Matsuno passed away on June 26, 2024, at the age of 56.

Throughout his extensive career, Matsuno became known for a wide range of iconic roles in anime, video games, and tokusatsu productions. One of his most celebrated and long-running roles was as the voice of the titular detective Hajime Kindaichi in the long-running mystery anime series The Kindaichi Case Files and its sequel, Kindaichi Case Files R. Other major anime roles included the wolf demon Koga in Inuyasha, the boisterous Chazz Princeton (Jun Manjome) in Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, the fairy-like creature Tart in Fresh Pretty Cure!, and multiple characters in the One Piece franchise, including Laffitte and Trebol. He also had a notable association with the Digimon franchise, providing the voice for Agumon in Digimon Savers and later for Lucemon in Digimon Xros Wars.

Beyond anime, Matsuno was a familiar voice in the Japanese dubbing of foreign films and television series. He is widely recognized as the second Japanese voice of the character SpongeBob SquarePants, taking over the role from the show's fourth season onward. His work also extended to video games, where he voiced characters such as Ling Tong and Liu Shan in the Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi series. In the tokusatsu genre, he played the role of the Sky Ninja Shurikenger in the Super Sentai series Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger, providing both the voice and suit acting for the character.

Matsuno's career was marked by a high volume of work and a distinctive voice that could portray a wide spectrum of characters, from young detectives and comedic creatures to arrogant rivals and villains. He was also a lecturer at the Japan Institute of the Moving Image and served as a visiting professor at various universities. He tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2021 but later recovered. His death in 2024 due to a right cerebral hemorrhage marked the end of a prolific career that spanned over four decades.
