Atsushi Ii

Atsushi Ii was a Japanese voice actor born Yoshio Tanaka on January 1, 1939, in Tokyo. He passed away on March 21, 2020, at the age of 81. His career in the industry spanned from 1969 to 2016. Throughout his working life, he was affiliated with several talent management agencies, including Mausu Promotion and Production★A Gumi, before ultimately settling with Arts Vision.
Ii was known for providing voices for a wide range of characters, often portraying middle-aged to elderly men, and was capable of performing both heroic and villainous roles. His body of work was extensive across various anime television series. Among his notable roles were Kawahara in the OVA Saikano: Another Love Song and Beelzebub in the series Demon Lord Dante. He also had roles in long-running and popular series such as GeGeGe no Kitarō (as Grandpa in the fourth series and Nichirō in the fifth), Soreike! Anpanman (as Haioni and the High Priest Tenpura), and a guest role in the inaugural episode of Detective Conan. His filmography also included appearances in Hikaru no Go, Soul Eater, and the anime film Sword of the Stranger.
In addition to anime, Atsushi Ii had a prolific career in voice-over dubbing for foreign films and television series. He was the Japanese dubbing voice for actor Willem Dafoe in the film Clear and Present Danger and for Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi in the DVD editions of The Karate Kid film series. His other dubbing credits included roles in Twin Peaks, Ali, and The Simpsons Movie. Over the course of his career, he also took over voice roles previously performed by other actors who had passed away, including the character of the neighbor's grandfather in the long-running series Sazae-san.
