Born Jose Espineli Gamboa Jr. on August 7, 1936, he began his artistic journey on the stage as a member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association. His entry into voice acting was unplanned, originating from his time as a radio announcer in the late 1950s, where he honed his craft through self-directed practice. Gamboa is notably recognized in the field of anime voice acting for his work in the English-dubbed version of the Japanese television series Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V. In this series, he provided the voices for three distinct characters: Professor Sakunji, Professor Hamaguchi, and the antagonist Duke Saki.
