Ermelinda Duarte is a Portuguese actress, singer-songwriter, and voice actress, recognized for her extensive work in dubbing animated series and films for Portuguese audiences. Born Maria Ermelinda Oliveira Duarte on October 6, 1946, in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, she began her artistic career in the late 1960s, joining the Teatro Estúdio de Lisboa in 1969. Her early work included roles in theater, film, and television, as well as a successful music career; her 1974 protest song "Somos Livres" became an anthem following the Carnation Revolution in Portugal.
Duarte's transition to voice acting came as she became increasingly involved in dubbing cartoons for Portuguese television. One of her most prominent and earliest voice roles was as the titular character in the Portuguese-dubbed version of the anime series The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which aired on RTP in the early 1980s. She also provided the voice for the character Tecla the spider in another well-known anime series, Maya the Bee.
Beyond these two roles, Duarte built a prolific career as a dubbing actress, lending her voice to a wide array of characters in numerous animated productions.
