Wankus

Description
Wankus is the professional name of Wayne C. Lewis, an American voice actor and radio personality known for a single, notable role in anime-style animation. His career is diverse, spanning radio, music, and live entertainment, with his work on the series Transformers: Robots in Disguise standing as his sole major credit in animated voice acting.

Before his brief foray into voice acting, Wankus built a successful career in broadcast radio. He hosted morning shows in several major American cities, including Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and New Orleans, and was the host of a nationally syndicated program. His work in Los Angeles included collaborations with renowned personalities like Robert W. Morgan at KRTH and a morning show gig on B-100, and his newscasts on KLSX during The Howard Stern Show are part of the collection at the Museum of Television & Radio. Alongside his radio career, he remained active in music, performing as a pianist in clubs, touring for a year with the legendary R&B group The Platters, and working with members of bands like The Gap Band and Parliament Funkadelic. He also composed theme music for television programs, such as The Rikki Lake Show, and for award ceremonies.

Wankus's singular entry into anime voice acting came with the English-language adaptation of the Japanese anime series Transformers: Robots in Disguise, produced by Saban Entertainment. In this 2001 series, he provided the voice for Prowl, a by-the-book Autobot police officer and one of the three Autobot Brothers. This role marked his first and only experience voicing a character in an animated series outside of commercial advertisements. He was cast alongside a roster of voice actors primarily known for their work on other Saban Entertainment properties like Digimon. By his own account, he was new to the process and would arrive early at recording sessions to observe and learn from his more experienced colleagues.

His performance as Prowl remains his most prominent achievement in the field of animation and has been a point of curiosity for fans, given his professional background under the Wankus name in other entertainment sectors. Following his time on Transformers: Robots in Disguise, he continued to work as a live host and personality at major venues like the Staples Center for Los Angeles Lakers and LA Sparks halftime shows.
