James B. Sikking was an American actor whose extensive career in television and film included occasional forays into voice acting for animated projects. Born in Los Angeles in 1934, he began acting in the 1950s and became a familiar face to audiences through his roles in major television series. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Lieutenant Howard Hunter on the acclaimed NBC drama Hill Street Blues and as Dr. David Howser, the father of the titular character, on the ABC series Doogie Howser, M.D. His film credits include roles in Ordinary People, The Pelican Brief, and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
Within the realm of animation, Sikking contributed his voice to a small number of projects. He provided the voice for General Gordon in the 1998 animated television series Invasion America. His most notable credit related to anime is in the English-language adaptation of the Studio Ghibli film Whisper of the Heart. In this 2006 Disney-produced dub of the 1995 Japanese film, Sikking voiced the character Seiya Tsukishima, the father of the protagonist, Shizuku.
