This training launched a career that spanned over twenty-five years, during which he became a highly respected and prolific voice actor in London's recording studios, often handling multiple sessions in a single day.

In the realm of anime, Lavelle is known for his work in English-language dubs of Japanese films from the late 1980s and early 1990s. He provided the voice for the protagonist Kyoya Izayoi in the 1988 animated feature Demon City Shinjuku, a role that has been noted by reviewers for its quality. Another prominent anime role followed in 1993, when he voiced the lead character, Jubei Kibagami, in the English version of the acclaimed film Ninja Scroll.
