Description
Alex McSweeney is an English actor whose primary career has been in live-action television, film, and theatre, with a small number of voice acting credits in English-dubbed anime productions from the late 1980s and early 1990s. Born in London on December 20, 1966, McSweeney trained at the London Academy of Performing Arts and the Academy Drama School. He is perhaps best known for his long-running role as the villainous Graham Foster in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, a part he played from 2003 to 2005 and reprised in 2023. His other numerous television credits include appearances in The Bill, Silent Witness, Holby City, Primeval, and Endeavour.
McSweeney's involvement in anime voice work is limited and occurred early in his career, primarily for English-language adaptations produced in the United Kingdom. In the 1988 English dub of the horror OVA Demon City Shinjuku, he provided the voice for the character Chibi. For this role, he was credited under the alias Alan Sherman. He also voiced the role of Owaru Ryudo, one of the four dragon-descended brothers, in the UK English dub of the fantasy OVA series Sohryuden - Legend of the Dragon Kings, produced by Manga UK. His other anime credits include an uncredited role as a student in the 1987 anime Rumic World: The Laughing Target and voice work in the OVAs Violence Jack (1990) and Genocyber (1990).
There is no information available about recurring collaborations with specific anime directors, studios, or other voice actors, nor are there notable awards or achievements specifically within the field of anime voice acting. McSweeney's career is overwhelmingly focused on live-action performance, and he has also worked as a writer, director, and university lecturer in literature and creative writing.
