Lanny Broyles

Lanny Broyles is an American voice actor and choreographer based in Tokyo, recognized for his work in English dubs of Japanese anime films during the 1980s. Born Lanny Marshall Broyles on February 25, 1949, he is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he majored in Speech, Theater, and English Literature. Before relocating to Japan, he appeared in minor roles in early 1980s American films, notably Roger Corman's Battle Beyond the Stars.

Motivated by a desire to live abroad, Broyles moved to Japan in the 1980s and began working in dubbing for Frontier Enterprises, a company known for producing English-language versions of Japanese films and television. His voice acting career is primarily associated with a small number of prominent anime film dubs from this era. He is most widely known for voicing the iconic character Captain Harlock, as well as his ancestor Phantom F. Harlock I, in the 1982 feature film Arcadia of My Youth. Another significant role was providing the voice of Genjuro Fujibayashi in the 1985 animated film The Dagger of Kamui. His filmography also includes the role of Commander Garro in Cyborg 009: The Legend of the Super Galaxy (1980) and a part in an early Frontier Enterprises dub of Lupin the 3rd: The Mystery of Mamo (1978).

Beyond his voice acting work from the 1970s to the 1990s, Broyles has also worked as a choreographer. In his later career, he transitioned to education and has worked as an English teacher at the Waseda College of International Language Vocational School in Japan.
