Charles Rolfe
Description
Charles Rolfe was an American voice actor active in the 1990s, primarily known for his work with the New York-based anime distributor Central Park Media during the early days of English anime localization. He is best remembered for his roles in two of the era's most popular fantasy and comedy series.
Rolfe's career was closely associated with Central Park Media, for which he provided voices for several of its English dub productions. His most significant role was as the antagonist Rezo the Red Priest in the first ten episodes of the fantasy anime Slayers. He originated the voice of the powerful, blind cleric before leaving the series for unknown reasons; the role was subsequently taken over by Peter Davis. Around the same time, he also voiced the character A'sharda Kagewaki in the English dub of Ranma 1/2. He provided the voice for the lord of the Kagewaki household for the first two seasons of the series before again departing, with David Kaye assuming the role from the third season onward.
In addition to his work on these longer-running series, Rolfe voiced a key character in a notable OVA of the period. He played the role of Shinobu Tezuka, the stoic and bespectacled student body president, in Central Park Media's 1996 English dub of the six-episode OVA Here Is Greenwood. This role stands as another example of his contribution to anime dubbing during the 1990s. According to available records, after his work on the second season of Ranma 1/2, Charles Rolfe did not act in another anime or any other kind of show, marking a brief but notable presence in the industry.
