Lily Baron was a French actress renowned for her extensive work in dubbing, providing the French voices for numerous characters in live-action series and animated films for over six decades. Born on March 13, 1921, in Héricourt, France, she pursued her childhood ambition of becoming a comedienne by moving to Paris in 1939. Her career spanned from live-action cinema and theatre to becoming one of the most recognized voices in French dubbing until her death on November 4, 2017.

Baron's voice work in anime and animated series is extensive, often lending her distinct tone to maternal or elderly characters. In the anime series Katry, the Cow Girl, known in French as Cathy la petite fermière, she voiced the role of Grand-mère de Cathy, the protagonist's grandmother. This role is a prime example of her frequent casting as a kindly grandmother figure. Her other notable anime roles included the Sorcière, Stella, and Reine Marléna in Les Maîtres de l'univers, Oryō Sonozaki in Hinamizawa, le village maudit, and Elsa in Space Adventure Cobra. She also contributed to the French versions of classic series such as Tom Sawyer and Rody le Petit Cid.

Beyond anime, Baron was a prolific voice for animated features, particularly for Disney. She is well remembered for being the second voice of Madame Samovar in La Belle et la Bête and its sequels, and for voicing Grand-mère Fa in Mulan and its sequel Mulan 2. She also voiced the elderly grandmother character in several other major productions, including Baylene the dinosaur in Dinosaure, Hildegarde in Les Noces Funèbres, and Béatrice in Cendrillon 2.

In the realm of live-action dubbing, her voice became iconic for several long-running television roles. She was the French voice of Harriet Oleson in La Petite Maison dans la prairie, Tara King in Chapeau melon et bottes de cuir, and Sophia Petrillo in Les Craquantes. Her later work included providing the voice for Miss Marple in the series of the same name and Jocasta Nu in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Throughout her career, Lily Baron's voice became a familiar and beloved presence in French popular culture, bringing warmth and character to a vast array of roles across generations.
