Maroesja Lacunes

Description
Maroesja Lacunes is a Dutch actress and singer, born in Amsterdam on September 11, 1945, who has built a diverse career spanning theatre, television, and voice work for animation. Her early training included dance with the Scapino Ballet in Amsterdam during her childhood, followed by a brief period at the Amsterdamse Toneelschool in 1966. She began her professional career in 1967 with youth theatre and went on to establish her own theatre group, Wederzijds.

Lacunes became a familiar face to Dutch audiences through her role as Tika, the daughter of the titular character in the beloved children's television series Tita Tovenaar, which she played from 1972 to 1974. Throughout the following decades, she maintained an active presence in Dutch television and film, appearing in productions such as 12 steden, 13 ongelukken and the long-running soap opera Onderweg naar Morgen. Her extensive theatre work included performances in plays by Bertolt Brecht, Harold Pinter, and Herman Heijermans, as well as comedic roles with the Theater van de Lach. From 1987 to 2001, she created and performed in her own theatrical productions, both collaborative and solo.

In addition to her on-screen and stage work, Lacunes has had a significant career lending her voice to Dutch-language dubs of animated and live-action films, as well as for voice-overs and commercials. A notable example of her voice work in anime is the lead role of Tom Sawyer in the Dutch dubbed version of the 1980 Japanese animated series The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, which was broadcast in the Netherlands starting in 1989. This series, produced by Nippon Animation, featured Lacunes voicing the character of Tom Sawyer, with Jody Pijper as Huckleberry Finn and Huib Rooymans as Jim.

After concluding her active theatre career in 2001, Lacunes shifted her focus to the visual arts, particularly drawing and painting, and she has maintained a studio in Amsterdam-West. In 2022, she published her autobiography, De Tovenaarsdochter, which provides a personal account of her life and career.
