Bruce Winant is an American actor, voice artist, and ADR voice casting director with a career spanning stage, television, film, and animation. Born in Santa Monica, California, on April 9, 1957, he is the son of actor H.M. Wynant and casting director Ethel Winant. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the United States International University School of Performing Arts and has an extensive background in theater, having performed in numerous award-winning stage productions including Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Ragtime, and Fiddler on the Roof on Broadway and in national tours. Since 1984, he has been a co-owner and the voice casting director of Loopers Unlimited, a New York-based company specializing in Automated Dialogue Replacement for film and television.
Winant has been a prolific presence in English-language adaptations of Japanese anime, contributing voices to numerous series and films from the late 1980s through the early 2000s. He is frequently credited under pseudonyms such as Jayce Reeves, which appears for his work on Record of Lodoss War and Area 88, or as Bruce Nielson. In the OVA Kai Doh Maru, he provides the voice of the protagonist Minamoto-no-Raiko, a role for which he is credited under his own name.
His other prominent anime roles include the villainous wizard Wagnard in the foundational fantasy series Record of Lodoss War. He was a cast member in the Mobile Police Patlabor franchise, voicing characters including Kaiho in various Patlabor television series and OVAs. He also contributed additional voices for the seminal cyberpunk film Akira in its 1989 Streamline Pictures English dub and had a role in the Robotech movie.
