Katherine Catmull

Description
Katherine Catmull is an American actress known for her work in voice-over for English adaptations of anime series and films, primarily during the 1990s and early 2000s. Her career, however, extends beyond voice acting into other performing and literary arts. Based in Austin, Texas, she has built a multifaceted career as a stage actor, novelist, and playwright alongside her voice-over work.

Catmull's voice acting portfolio is largely comprised of roles in English dubs of Japanese anime. She is recognized for voicing Nonononn in the 2001 series Magical Play. Another of her well-documented roles is Kei in the 1998 OVA series Getter Robo: Armageddon, a part for which she was also featured in a behind-the-scenes segment on the DVD release. Her filmography includes a significant number of credits from the late 1990s, with multiple roles in productions related to the Rurouni Kenshin franchise. She provided voices for Rurouni Kenshin: The Motion Picture (1997) as Child A, for the Rurouni Kenshin: Trust and Betrayal OVA (1999) as Katsu and Shinta, and for the subsequent Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection (2001) as Kaoru Kamiya. Additional anime credits from this period include roles in City Hunter:.357 Magnum (1989), Queen Emeraldas (1998), and Mazinkaiser (2001).

Beyond anime, Catmull's voice work also extends to the video game industry. She voiced the character Oracle in the popular massively multiplayer online game DC Universe Online (2011) and Myrella Windspar in Wizard 101.

The patterns of her work suggest recurring collaborations with specific voice directors and studios involved in English dubs during that era. She frequently appeared in productions alongside other voice actors such as Lowell Bartholomee and Ken Webster, her husband, indicating a consistent circle of professional colleagues in the Austin-area voice-over community. Her work often involved providing voices for multiple characters within the same project or franchise, as seen in her contributions to the various Rurouni Kenshin titles.

A notable achievement in her career is its diversity. While she contributed to numerous anime titles, Catmull has also garnered critical acclaim for her work as an author. Her debut novel, Summer and Bird (2012), was named one of Booklist's Top Ten First Novels for Youth, and she co-authored The Cabinet of Curiosities (2014), which was selected as one of the New York Public Library's Best Books of the year. This parallel success as a writer highlights a career that successfully bridges the performing and literary arts.
