Joan-Carol O'Connell

Description
Joan-Carol O'Connell is the professional name used by the American actress J.C. Henning for much of her work in anime voiceover. Under this name, she became a recognizable voice in English-language dubs of Japanese animated series and films, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s when companies like Streamline Pictures were producing dubs for the North American market.

Her voice acting career is closely associated with classic anime titles from that era. One of her most frequently noted roles is Yukari in the supernatural horror OVA series Doomed Megalopolis, a part she played in the English dub produced by Streamline Pictures. She also provided the voice for the character Dorothy in the 1987 sci-fi horror anime Lily C.A.T.. Another significant credit is her role as the Lady Armoroid in the Space Adventure Cobra: The Movie. In addition, she voiced the character Safine in the anime series Cybuster and Mello in D.N.A. Sights 999.9.

Her filmography also includes some of the most prominent dubs of the period. She is credited as the voice of Clarisse in the Streamline Pictures English dub of Hayao Miyazaki's The Castle of Cagliostro. Her other anime credits include voicing Benisato in the acclaimed film Ninja Scroll, Towa in Requiem from the Darkness, and Susanna Julia von Wincott in Kyo Kara Maoh!. She also performed as the narrator for the English version of The Fantastic Adventures of Unico. Her work extended beyond these major roles to include additional voices for other series from the era, such as El-Hazard: The Magnificent World.

Due to the nature of voice acting work in that period, her credits show a pattern of collaboration with a consistent group of voice actors and directors associated with the Los Angeles-based dubbing industry. While her most prominent work was done under the name Joan-Carol O'Connell, her career as an actress spans several decades and includes numerous roles in live-action film and television under her birth name, J.C. Henning. A notable aspect of her broader career is her work since the year 2000 as an audio describer for live theatre and opera, providing narration for blind and visually impaired patrons.
