Toshiyuki Nishida

Toshiyuki Nishida was a highly respected Japanese actor whose career in entertainment spanned over five decades. Born in Fukushima in 1947, he made his television debut at the age of nineteen in 1967. He became a household name in Japan during the 1970s through his work in television dramas and on the stage.
While Nishida was primarily known for his extensive live-action work, his contributions to anime, though select, were notable. He provided the voice for the character Iwa in the critically acclaimed 2011 anime film A Letter to Momo. In this Production I.G film, Nishida voiced the leader of three mischievous goblin spirits who befriend a young girl coping with her father's death. His other major foray into anime voice acting was as Kōichi Tabuchi in the Ganbare!! Tabuchi-kun film series.
Beyond these specific voice roles, Nishida's career was deeply intertwined with the worlds of manga and anime through numerous live-action adaptations. He took on prominent roles in films such as the 2010 live-action Space Battleship Yamato, the 2007 live-action Kitarō film, and the 2014 live-action Nobunaga Concerto film. He was also a familiar face to audiences from the long-running Tsuri Baka Nisshi live-action series and the 2009 Kochikame live-action series.
In recognition of his significant contributions to Japanese arts and entertainment, Nishida was honored with the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 2008 and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette in 2018. Toshiyuki Nishida passed away in October 2024 at the age of 76.
