Risa Junna is a Japanese actress, singer, and voice actor born on March 15, 1971, in Minoh, Osaka. Her career began with a strong foundation in musical theater. In 1990, she joined the renowned Takarazuka Revue after graduating at the top of her class from the Takarazuka Music School. Known for her exceptional singing ability, she was selected as an etoile, the singer for the finale, during her very first stage performance. She performed with the Snow Troupe and later became the top musumeyaku, or lead female role, for the Flower Troupe from 1995 to 1996. After retiring from the revue in 1996, she transitioned to a successful career in television, film, and stage.
While Junna is widely recognized for her on-screen and stage performances, her most significant contribution as a voice actor is the title role in NHK's educational anime series Little Charo. She voiced the character Charo, a loyal and brave puppy, across multiple installments of the long-running program designed for English language learners. Her work includes the original Little Charo series in 2008, Little Charo 2 from 2010 to 2011, and Little Charo: Tohoku-hen. Her involvement with the franchise also extended to a guest appearance on the related educational program Little Charo: Karada ni Shimikomu Eikaiwa in 2008.
Beyond her voice work, Junna's broader career includes notable achievements in film and music. In 1994, while still a member of the Takarazuka Revue, she took a leave to star as the lead in the NHK morning drama Piano, also performing its theme song. In 2001, she starred in the Hong Kong film Midnight Fly, for which she received a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Horse Awards and won the award for Best Original Film Song for the film's theme song. Her career as a singer is extensive, having performed with major orchestras like the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and releasing multiple albums. In 2023, she established her own record label, mona☆risa_records. She also continues to work as a radio personality on Tokyo FM.
