Eiji Yanagisawa was a Japanese voice actor born in Tokyo on August 22, 1967. He was a graduate of the Baobab Gakuen, now known as the Visual Space Actor Training Institute, as part of its third graduating class. Following his training, he became affiliated with the talent agency Production Baobab, where he remained for the duration of his career.

Yanagisawa's career in voice acting began in the 1990s and spanned over three decades, during which he built an extensive portfolio of roles across anime, video games, and dubbing for Western media. He was known for his versatility and his work as a supporting actor, frequently voicing a wide array of characters in numerous popular series. His vocal range was described as mid-range, allowing him to portray a variety of roles, from authority figures to comedic side characters.

Among his most notable anime roles were Genzo in Naruto, Professor Ulen Hibiki in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, and Okabe-sensei in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. He also had recurring roles in long-running series, such as providing voices for multiple characters in Detective Conan and serving as the third voice actor for the character Matsuchiyo in Nintama Rantarou. As specified, he also played the role of Danroku in the original video animation Getter Robo: Armageddon. His other significant anime credits included Takayanagi in Genshiken, Worm the Trailmon in Digimon Frontier, and multiple roles in the Code Geass franchise. He also contributed to major film projects, with roles in The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and various films in the Crayon Shin-chan, Doraemon, and Detective Conan series.

In addition to his anime work, Yanagisawa was active in the video game industry. He voiced Warlock Roland in Tales of Xillia and its sequel Tales of Xillia 2, as well as Romano in Tales of Zestiria. He also reprised his anime role of Genzo in the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja game series. His work extended to dubbing foreign films and television series into Japanese, with credits including the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, Lethal Weapon 3, and episodes of Stargate Atlantis, CSI: NY, and CSI: Miami.

Eiji Yanagisawa passed away on November 12, 2024, at the age of 57 due to a brain stem hemorrhage. His death was announced by his agency, Production Baobab, eight days later.
