Meguru Ueno
Description
Meguru Ueno is a Japanese manga artist, born in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. He is male. Ueno began submitting his manga works while still a student in the manga course at Nagoya Zokei University. Early in his career, he used the pen name Toru Ueno. Under this name, his submission SCARY received a Special Encouragement Award in the 89th Newcomer Manga Award from Weekly Shonen Magazine in 2012. The following year, the same work was published on the official website of Weekly Shonen Magazine. He subsequently changed his pen name to Meguru Ueno, first to the reading Meguru Ueno using different characters, before finally settling on the present spelling around 2014.
Ueno is best known as the creator of the romantic comedy manga Hajimete no Gal, also known as My First Girlfriend Is a Gal. The series began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten’s Monthly Shonen Ace magazine on November 26, 2015. The manga became a commercial success and was compiled into multiple tankobon volumes. Its popularity led to an anime television adaptation. The anime series, produced by the studio NAZ, aired for ten episodes from July to September 2017. An original animation DVD, or OAD, was also released in December 2017.
Beyond his most famous work, Ueno has authored several other manga series. These include Otaku no Tonari wa Elf desu ka? (Does a Hot Elf Live Next Door to You?), which began in 2019, and Gal-sen (Gal Teacher), which started serialization in 2021. His other works include the series PEEP. In addition to his own original series, Ueno has contributed to anthology projects for other popular franchises, such as the official anthology comic for Kanojo, Okarishimasu. His body of work is primarily in the romantic comedy and comedy genres, often featuring character archetypes associated with contemporary youth culture.
