Hiroaki Ogura

Description
Hiroaki Ogura is the original creator behind the light novel and manga series The Saga of Lioncourt. Ogura first began the story as a web novel in 2017 on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website under a different title, where it won the grand prize in the 6th Net Novel Award. The work was subsequently picked up for print publication, with the first light novel volume released in 2018 by the publisher Tsugikuru Books under its new title, The Saga of Lioncourt, featuring illustrations by artist toi8. A second light novel volume followed in 2019.

The series was then adapted into a manga, with Ogura credited as the original story creator. The manga, illustrated by the artist Nagy, launched in 2019 and concluded in 2023, spanning a total of six volumes. The story follows Tadashi Tanaka, a 41-year-old Japanese office worker who dies of cancer and is reincarnated as a young noble named Varian de Lioncourt in a harsh, medieval Europe-like world. The narrative is noted for its grim and brutal tone, focusing on the protagonist's struggle to survive and his gradual, often violent, transformation as he adapts to the rigid and unforgiving societal norms of his new environment.

The manga adaptation was originally serialized in Monthly Kissca magazine before moving to the Web Comic Gamma platform after Kissca ceased publication. Both the light novel and the manga have been released in English by the publisher J-Novel Club, with the manga's digital release concluding in late 2023. The series represents a significant creative work for Ogura, who is primarily known for this single title, with the project spanning both original novel writing and the subsequent oversight of its manga adaptation.
