Naru Narumi

Description
Naru Narumi is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator, recognized as the original creator behind several manga series that have been adapted into anime and live-action television dramas. Narumi was born on March 29 in Tokyo, Japan. She began her professional career in 2005 when a short story she submitted won an honorable mention in the 70th Golden Wing Awards, leading to her debut in the monthly magazine Monthly Gangan Wing.

Her first serialized work was the romantic comedy Tokyo Innocent, which ran from 2006 to 2011. Following this, she created the series JA Sisters, a comedy about agricultural life, which was published from 2011 to 2014.

Narumi is best known as the author of Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles. The manga began serialization in the magazine Manga Life Storia in September 2013. The series follows the daily life of a beautiful but antisocial high school girl whose hidden passion is eating ramen. This work was adapted into a live-action television drama that aired from June to July 2015, followed by two specials in 2016. A twelve-episode anime television series adaptation, co-produced by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ, then aired from January to March 2018.

Another of her notable works is Watari-kun's ****** Is About to Collapse. This manga, a romantic comedy, was first serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Young Ace magazine from August 2014 to June 2015 before transferring to Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine, where it ran from November 2015 until its conclusion in September 2023. An anime television series adaptation produced by Staple Entertainment is scheduled to premiere in July 2025.

Her other published manga include the two-volume series Absolute Queen's Rule and various short stories.

Narumi’s personal passion for ramen is a well-documented influence on her work. She has stated that she developed a love for ramen while living in Fukuoka during elementary school and began eating it frequently in high school. At one point, she reportedly ate up to five bowls of ramen in a single day and has claimed to consume over 365 bowls per year. This enthusiasm is directly reflected in Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles, where the detailed depictions of different ramen dishes are a central feature. Besides ramen, she has also expressed fondness for themes involving Tokyo and Japanese folklore, which appeared in her earlier work Tokyo Innocent.

Her artistic identity is characterized by a clean and attractive drawing style that has evolved over time, shifting from a more exaggerated, fantasy-oriented look in her early works to a more realistic and refined approach in her later, romance-focused stories. She is noted for her skill in depicting the personalities and psychology of her characters, who are often portrayed as having unique or slightly flawed interpersonal traits. While she has achieved significant success and recognition, particularly with the multimedia franchise of Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles, her body of work continues to be defined by a consistent focus on character-driven romantic comedies and slice-of-life narratives.
