Hinako Takanaga

Description
Hinako Takanaga is a Japanese manga artist best known for creating Boys' Love (BL) and yaoi romantic comedy series. She was born on September 16 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, and currently lives in Osaka. Her professional debut came in 1995 with the story Goukaku Kigan, published by Hanamaru Comics, which later developed into her series Challengers. She has cited manga artists Suzue Miuchi, Yun Koga, and Range Murata as influences on her work.

Takanaga is the creator of numerous manga series, many of which have been published in English and German. Her bibliography includes Challengers (four volumes), Little Butterfly (three volumes), Awkward Silence (six volumes), and the ongoing series The Tyrant Falls in Love, which has surpassed fourteen volumes. The Tyrant Falls in Love, known in Japanese as Koisuru Boukun, is a sequel to Challengers and follows the turbulent romantic relationship between the homophobic researcher Souichi Tatsumi and his persistent junior, Tetsuhiro Morinaga. The series has appeared on bestseller lists in Japan and Germany and was adapted into a two-part original video animation (OVA) released in 2010, produced by the studio Prime Time. The OVA was directed by Keiji Kawakubo with a screenplay by Yukina Hiiro. In addition to her manga work, Takanaga has provided illustrations for several yaoi light novel series by other authors, including The Guilty series by Katsura Izumi and the Shirasagi series by Haruhi Sakiya.

Takanaga has been a guest at Yaoi-Con in 2007 and 2010, invited by Digital Manga Publishing, the American publisher of Little Butterfly and The Tyrant Falls in Love. Her works are recognized for their detailed artwork and focus on the emotional evolution of characters within romantic comedies, frequently set in university or high school contexts. Her series The Tyrant Falls in Love had a complex path to English publication, initially licensed by DramaQueen in 2006 but remaining unreleased due to financial difficulties; the license was later acquired by Juné, which began releasing the series in 2010.
