Shinri Fuwa
Description
Shinri Fuwa is a manga artist recognized for work in the boys love genre, a field also known as yaoi, which focuses on romantic relationships between male characters. Fuwa's professional career is documented from the mid-1990s, with early titles including Yasashii Kankei and Every Day Every Night from 1996.
Fuwa is best known as the illustrator for the manga series Yebisu Celebrities. The story was written by Kaoru Iwamoto and serialized in the magazine Magazine Be x Boy, with the first volume published on May 10, 2004. The series follows Haruka Fujinami, a college student who begins working at a graphic design firm called Yebisu Graphics and develops a complex relationship with his demanding boss, Takashi Daijō. Yebisu Celebrities was published in six volumes from 2004 to 2008, first by Biblos under its B-Boy imprint and later by Libre Publishing after Biblos declared bankruptcy. The manga was licensed for English digital release by Viz Medias Sublime imprint in 2011.
An original video animation adaptation titled Yebisu Celebrities 1st was released on DVD by Movic on May 28, 2010. The OVA was directed by Koichi Kikuchi, produced by the animation studio Garden Lodge, and featured voice actors Jūrōta Kosugi as Takashi Daijō and Kazuma Horie as Haruka Fujinami. The adaptation used a production style sometimes described as an animix, where character mouth movements are animated over static images with full voice acting. The OVA runs approximately 45 minutes. Multiple drama CD adaptations of Yebisu Celebrities were also produced between 2004 and 2009.
Beyond illustration work on Yebisu Celebrities, Fuwa has written and illustrated original manga titles. A Gentlemans Kiss, also known as Tsumasaki ni Kiss, was serialized in the magazine Chara Selection from August 2005 to April 2006 and published in two volumes by Tokuma Shoten. The story involves a secret romance between Homura Yasobe, heir to a yakuza family, and businessman Touji Karasuma, who is the son of a rival companys leadership. The series was released in English by Digital Manga Publishing in 2008. Another work, Renai Shoumei (Proof of Love), is a collection of short stories published in September 2008 for which Fuwa provided both story and art. Additional manga titles credited to Fuwa as writer and artist include Gravity Eyes, Machina Angelus, Zettai Unmei Houteishiki, and Furachi na Bokura.
Fuwas artistic identity is closely tied to the boys love genre, with works consistently exploring romantic dynamics between male characters in contemporary settings such as workplaces, schools, and business environments. The body of work as both an illustrator and sole creator demonstrates a long-term commitment to the genre from the late 1990s through the 2010s.
