Kappy, also known by the native name かっぴー, is a Japanese manga artist and original creator born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1985. His background is distinct from many of his peers, as he did not begin his career as a cartoonist. He studied design at Musashino Art University and entered the advertising industry, joining Tokyu Agency in 2009. There, he worked as an art director, copywriter, and commercial planner. In 2014, he moved to the company Kayac. This career in advertising and planning has significantly shaped his approach to content creation and his understanding of mass media.

His entry into manga creation was almost accidental. While at Kayac, a colleague encouraged him after seeing a manga he had written as a self-introduction. In September 2015, he posted a web comic titled Facebook Police online, which quickly gathered widespread attention. This success led him to leave Kayac and establish his own company, Natsumi Co., Ltd., where he serves as president. The company motto, "busy and play," reflects his philosophy of treating creative work as an enjoyable pursuit rather than a burdensome obligation.

Kappy is credited as the original creator for the anime SNS Police, an original net animation that ran for 24 episodes from March to May 2018. This work is a direct successor to his earlier viral hit Facebook Police. His other notable manga works include Oshaya Sommelier Oshako!, Buzzman, To Kimi who will become an absolute old man someday, and Miha-channeru. He has also worked on a remake version of Hidarikiki no Eren, which was announced on the manga website cakes and later serialized in Shonen Jump+ with artist nifuni.

A recurring theme in Kappy's work is the critique and observation of social media and modern digital life, as evidenced by his early successes Facebook Police and SNS Police. His artistic identity is heavily informed by his advertising background. In interviews, he has discussed the importance of designing the viewer's state of mind and sees his manga as a form of communication that can make information more engaging and accessible.
