Wakana Kingyo

Description
Wakana Kingyo, also known by her current stage name Wakana Minami, is a Japanese voice actor, singer, and stage actor born on March 1, 1994, in Yamaguchi Prefecture. Her surname, Kingyo, which means goldfish, is her actual family name and not a stage name. She graduated from Yamaguchi Prefectural Shimonoseki Central Technical High School and later studied voice acting at the Human Academy in Shibuya.

Her entry into the voice acting profession was unusual, as she was scouted by voice actor Hideo Ishikawa at an event in Kitakyushu, leading to her affiliation with Aoni Production without going through the standard audition process. She made her voice acting debut in 2014 with a minor role in the television anime "About a Totally Uninterested Guy Talking About His Wife". That same year, she was a finalist in the first All Japan Beautiful Voice Woman Contest and became a member of the temporary unit Honeyche Girls. She also debuted as a stage actress in December 2014. Her debut as a singer came in 2015 with the release of the theme song "Double Bind" for the movie "The Margin of Sin".

In 2016, she began voicing Anri Himesaki in the multimedia project "8 beat Story" as part of the voice actor unit 8/pLanet. After four years with Aoni Production, she left the agency on July 31, 2019. The following day, she joined the Hibiki agency and changed her stage name from Wakana Kingyo to Wakana Minami. Her contract with Hibiki ended in April 2024, after which she became a freelance voice actor.

Wakana Kingyo has built a diverse portfolio of voice roles across anime, games, and films. A recurring and notable role is Haruka Hayasugi, the younger sister of the protagonist, in the "Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion" series, appearing in both "Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion THE ANIMATION" and "Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion: Mirai Kara Shinsoku no ALFA-X". In the long-running children's series "Soreike! Anpanman," she voiced the character Rainbow Ice Cream Anpanman in the 2019 film "Kirameke! Ice no Kuni no Vanilla-hime".

Her other significant anime credits include roles in major franchises such as "Dragon Ball Super," "Macross Delta," "My Hero Academia," and "Pokémon," where she notably voiced the character Sandy in the "Where Are You Going, Eevee?" shorts. She has also appeared in "Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card," "Fruits Basket," and voiced Matilda Matisse in the 2021 adaptation of "Shaman King". In addition to anime, her work extends to video games like "Kemono Friends" and "Heaven Burns Red," as well as dubbing for foreign productions, such as the dragonfly spirit in the Japanese dub of the Chinese animated film "White Snake".

Beyond acting, Wakana Kingyo holds qualifications in information technology and calculation skills, and possesses a regular driver's license. Her skills include cooking and gas welding, a testament to her technical high school education. She speaks the Yamaguchi dialect and has listed watching plays and movies as her hobbies.
