Ryō Ikehata

Description
Ryō Ikehata is a Japanese author known for writing light novel series, several of which have been adapted into other media such as anime. He is the original creator of the light novel series Calamity of a Zombie Girl, which was adapted into an original net animation released in July 2018.

Ikehata was born in Shizuoka Prefecture and currently resides in Yokohama, Japan. His career as a writer includes a range of titles published in the early 2000s, such as Minna No Shōkinkasegi, Ryakudatsu Beibī, and Shubarie. He is also the author of the light novel adaptations of the Blood+ anime series. These novelizations were published in Japan and later released in English by Dark Horse Books, comprising four volumes: First Kiss, Chevalier, Boy Meets Girl, and Nankurunaisa, published between 2008 and 2009.

The work for which Ikehata is most widely recognized is Calamity of a Zombie Girl. He wrote the original light novel series, which was published by Kadokawa Shoten under their Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. The main two-volume series was released on June 30, 2012, with illustrations by Hagane Tsurugi. A two-volume sequel series titled Aru Zombie Shōjo no Nyūgaku was published on November 30, 2012. The story centers on a zombie girl named Euphrosyne Studion who awakens after a century of sleep to retrieve a magical stone stolen from her coffin.

Ikehata is credited as the original creator for the anime adaptation of his work. The original net animation was produced by studios Gonzo and Stingray, directed by Hideaki Iwami, with a screenplay by Kenichi Kanemaki. In the context of this production, Ikehata's role is that of the source material's author, distinct from the screenwriter who adapted the story for the screen. While an earlier announcement for an anime adaptation was made in 2012, the project ultimately materialized as the ONA released in 2018.

As a creator, Ikehata's significance lies in his contribution to the light novel medium, particularly within genres involving supernatural action and horror. His work Calamity of a Zombie Girl has been distributed internationally, with the ONA being simulcast by services such as Crunchyroll and released on home video in the United Kingdom and Ireland by Anime Limited. His bibliography demonstrates a focus on novelizations of existing anime properties, such as Blood+, as well as the development of original intellectual property like Calamity of a Zombie Girl.
