Rurika Fuyuki
Description
Rurika Fuyuki is a Japanese manga artist born on August 5 in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. She made her professional debut in 1983 with the short story Cheese Fantasy published in the magazine Viva Princess, having previously worked under the doujinshi pen name Fukami Chifuyu.
Fuyuki is best known as the original creator of the Aries manga series, which serves as her most significant and longest-running work. The series, also known as Constellation Palace Myth, is set within a framework of Greek mythology. Its narrative follows the reincarnations of Olympian gods as contemporary students in modern Japan, exploring the romantic and dramatic entanglements that arise from their past lives. The main storyline was published across twenty collected volumes, and a sequel, Aries II, was launched in 2008. The Aries manga was adapted into a single-episode original video animation (OVA) titled Aries: Shinwa no Seiza Miya, released on October 1, 1990. For this production, Fuyuki received credit as the original character designer and original creator.
Throughout her career, Fuyuki has consistently drawn upon European mythology as a primary source of inspiration, reinterpreting classical legends through the visual and narrative conventions of shojo manga. Her other published works from this period include The Demon Princess, Druggist (also known as Angel's Tincture), Wind Companion Moon, and Final Age. In later years, her professional focus shifted toward the ladies' comics or josei demographic, where she has worked extensively as a manga illustrator, adapting foreign romance novels into the Japanese graphic novel format. Titles from this phase of her career include adaptations of works such as Pregnant by the Millionaire, The Darkest Whisper, Genni's Dilemma, and Royal Nights.
