Koushi Rikudou

Koushi Rikudou was born on November 16, 1970, in Dazaifu, Fukuoka, Japan, and is a graduate of Kyushu Sangyo University. He began his creative career by drawing adult doujinshi in 1990 under the circle names Genkotsuten and Gebokudou, and he continues to supervise the doujinshi circle Rikudou Juku. His major debut came in 1996 with the manga Excel Saga, which was serialized in Young King OURs and ran for 27 volumes until 2011. This work remains his most popular and was adapted into an anime series; Rikudou has described the manga as a work dealing with the everyday aspects of living in Japan.

Another significant work is Pandora in the Crimson Shell: Ghost Urn, also known as Koukaku no Pandora. This manga is based on a concept by Masamune Shirow, with Rikudou responsible for the writing and illustration. It began serialization in Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype Ace magazine on October 10, 2012, and later moved to the Niconico Ace website, running until 2024 and collected in 26 volumes. This series was adapted into an anime produced by Studio Gokumi and AXsiZ, which was first released as a film in December 2015 before airing as a television series from January 8 to March 25, 2016. The anime was directed by Munenori Nawa, with scripts by Tatsuya Takahashi.

Beyond these major titles, Rikudou has created a wide range of other manga series, including Holy Brownie, Arabaki, Deathless, and Super Cartesian Theater. He also provided illustrations for Moebius Gear, based on an original story by Toshiki Inoue, and contributed to the anthology Neon Genesis Evangelion: Comic Tribute. Rikudou continues to live in his birthplace of Dazaifu, Fukuoka.
