Toshio Kakei is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on August 10, 1962, in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture. He is a graduate of the performing arts department at Osaka University of Arts. His career began in theater; he joined the theatrical troupe Gekidan Sanbankai, founded by Koichi Makino, in 1985 and became a leading actor with the company. He made his film debut in 1989 and has since built a prolific career across film, television, and stage. In 2005, he formed his own theatrical company, Team ARAGOTO.
Kakei is widely recognized for his extensive work in live-action dramas and films, with his role as elite bureaucrat Kentaro Shinjo in the popular Odoru Daisousasen (Bayside Shakedown) series being one of his most famous. His other notable television credits include Yamato Nadeshiko, Dr. Kotou Shinryoujo, and the taiga drama Ryomaden. He has also been active in stage productions, such as the Japanese run of the musical Miss Saigon.
While primarily known as a live-action actor, Kakei has contributed his voice to a limited number of anime projects. He serves as the Japanese narrator for the educational anime series Little Charo, specifically in the Tohoku-hen arc, guiding viewers through the story. In the 2011 Chinese-Japanese animated film The Tibetan Dog, he voiced the character Lakpa, the father of the protagonist Tenzin. These roles represent his documented forays into anime voice acting.
