Yasunobu Yamauchi
Description
Yasunobu Yamauchi is a Japanese manga artist best known as the creator of the comedy series Daily Lives of High School Boys. He began his professional career after participating in a manga contest held by Square Enix, where a rough version of what would become his debut work earned a special award from the judges. This early recognition paved the way for the serialization of Daily Lives of High School Boys, which was published in the Gangan Online magazine from May 2009 to September 2012 and later compiled into seven volumes. The series became a significant success, leading to a twelve-episode anime adaptation produced by Sunrise that aired from January to March 2012, followed by a live-action film released in October 2013. His work on the manga also garnered recognition as a jury-recommended work at the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival.
Following the conclusion of his debut series, Yamauchi created the manga Zai x 10, also known as Ten Crimes, which was serialized in Gangan Online and Monthly Shonen Gangan from August 2013 to July 2015 and collected in four volumes. He later began the series Hakurai no Kishi, or The Knight of White Thunder, which started serialization in October 2019. Beyond his own serialized works, he has contributed illustrations for other projects, such as the ending illustration for the first episode of the anime adaptation of Watamote.
Yamauchi maintains a notably low public profile, having made almost no personal public statements or disclosed biographical details, which has led to occasional unverified speculation among readers, including theories about a possible connection to the doujin artist Bomber Grape. His artistic identity is defined by a focus on slice-of-life and comedy genres, often exploring the mundane yet absurd aspects of everyday interactions, a style that has become his signature contribution to the industry.
