Hawkman

Description
Hawkman is a Japanese manga writer, known for being the original creator behind several manga series. Born in 1992 in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture, the creator began their professional career in 2018 with the serialization of Streaming Hero, which was published under the pen name Takato Osaki.

Since 2020, Hawkman has served as the writer for the manga Night of the Living Cat, which is illustrated by the artist Mecha-Roots. This work is serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden magazine, where it began publication on October 5, 2020. The series is set in a world overrun by a virus that transforms people into cats, following a protagonist who must resist the urge to touch them in order to survive. The manga is licensed for English release in North America by Seven Seas Entertainment, and as of February 2025, six compiled volumes have been published in Japan.

Beyond Night of the Living Cat, Hawkman is also known as the writer for the manga The Brave-Tuber.

An anime television series adaptation of Night of the Living Cat was announced in February 2024. The production is led by OLM, with Takashi Miike serving as chief director and Tomohiro Kamitani as director. The anime is scheduled to premiere in July 2025 and will be streamed by Crunchyroll in various regions.

The artistic identity of Hawkman’s work often involves high-concept, survival-driven narratives. In Night of the Living Cat, this is exemplified by a scenario where a seemingly innocent love for cats becomes a world-ending threat, blending horror with comedy. The series received recognition early in its run, having been nominated for the seventh Next Manga Award in the Best Printed Manga category in 2021.
