noho
Description
noho is a Japanese illustrator and manga artist based in Shizuoka Prefecture. Before becoming a freelance creator in 2017, noho worked as a graphic designer for ten years in design firms and other organizations. Personal interests include green tea, films, and dogs.
Noho is best known as the original creator of the manga series Tonari no Yōkai-san. The story began as a serialization on noho’s own social media accounts in 2017. The first collected volume was published by East Press in July 2018, followed by a second volume in 2019. The series later moved to the web magazine Matogrosso for continued serialization. The fourth volume was released in April 2022. An anime television adaptation of Tonari no Yōkai-san premiered in April 2024.
Beyond this flagship work, noho has created other manga including L.A. Cat Story the walking cat. Noho has also contributed short manga to various publications such as Nemuki+, Morning, and the cat-themed manga anthology Neko Panchi published by Shonen Gahosha. Additional freelance illustration work includes contributions to character design reference books.
The artwork of noho is characterized by warm, accessible imagery and a focus on everyday human and supernatural interactions. While the stories maintain simple and relatable structures, they are noted for containing detailed background settings that reward attentive readers. Noho represents their own persona in public materials as a cat wearing green glasses.
As a creator who gained a following through social media rather than traditional magazine serialization, noho represents a significant example of how digital platforms have enabled manga artists from outside major urban centers to achieve commercial publication and anime adaptation. Despite the success of Tonari no Yōkai-san, many personal details about noho remain publicly undisclosed.
