Description
Asa Rokushima is the original creator of the light novel and manga series The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a New Life, also known by its Japanese title Tsuihō Sareta Cheat Fuyo Majutsushi wa Kimamana Second Life o Ōka Suru. Rokushima began writing the story as a web novel in January 2021 on the user-generated content site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The series was later picked up for print publication by Kodansha, which released the first light novel volume in January 2022 with illustrations by the artist kisui; a second volume followed in October 2022. The narrative follows Rein, an enchanter expelled from his guild, who reclaims the enhancement points he had invested in the guild's equipment and uses them to transform ordinary items into overpowered gear, embarking on a carefree new life as an adventurer.
The property was adapted into a manga series in October 2021, with artwork by Gyomuyoumochi, which began serialization in Shōnen Magazine R before moving to the web manga portal Getsumaga Kichi in March 2023. As of February 2026, the manga has published nineteen volumes, and the series as a whole has sold over 1.3 million copies across both print and digital formats. Rokushima has noted that the novel and manga versions tell significantly different stories, with the original author commenting that their content is approximately ninety-nine percent different.
