Ibarakino
Description
Ibarakino is a Japanese creator known for originating light novel series that have been adapted into manga and anime. The creator’s name is written in Japanese as 茨木野.
Ibarakino began writing stories on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The most prominent work is Even Given the Worthless Appraiser Class, I’m Actually the Strongest, which was serialized as a web novel on that platform from December 2019 to January 2022. The success of the web novel led to a print light novel adaptation published by Kodansha under its Kodansha Ranobe Books imprint, with illustrations by Hitaki Yuu. The first light novel volume was released in October 2020, with several volumes following.
A manga adaptation of this story, illustrated by Morohoshi Fuji, began serialization in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket digital platform in July 2020 and concluded in April 2025, with its chapters collected into fifteen tankōbon volumes. The manga was licensed for English digital release by Kodansha USA. An anime television series adaptation produced by Okuruto Noboru aired from January to March 2025, with Ibarakino receiving credit as the original story author. This series follows a protagonist with a seemingly weak appraiser class who discovers his true power after being betrayed and abandoned.
Beyond this title, Ibarakino is the creator of several other series. One notable work is The Corrupt Guildmaster Is Beloved by the Banished (Ore wa Bōkensha Guild no Akutoku Guild Master: Jinzai o Tekizaitekisho ni Tsuihō Shitara, Naze ka Mechakucha Kansha Saremashita). This story was also posted on Shōsetsuka ni Narō from December 2020 to December 2022, and a manga adaptation illustrated by Yatsukishiro began serialization in April 2024. A list of original works on a fan-maintained database indicates Ibarakino has been credited as the original creator for numerous manga titles, many of which are adaptations of the creator’s own light novels.
The creator’s body of work largely falls within the fantasy and adventure genres, frequently exploring themes of an underdog protagonist who is underestimated due to a perceived weak or worthless job class, only to rise to power by unlocking hidden potential. Ibarakino’s significance in the industry lies in a successful trajectory from online web novel publishing to mainstream commercial success across light novel, manga, and anime formats, which is a common career path for contemporary Japanese creators in these media.
