Ryōsen Takami

Description
Ryōsen Takami is a Japanese light novel author known for creating the popular isekai series Multi-Mind Mayhem: Isekai Tensei Soudouki. Born on March 29, 1972, in the Yanagawa district of Date City, Fukushima Prefecture, Takami adopted his pen name from his hometown's former name, Yanagawa. He began writing online in 2008, initially using the name Takami Haruka before changing to Ryōsen Takami later that year.

Takami's breakthrough came in 2013 when his web novel Multi-Mind Mayhem: Isekai Tensei Soudouki won the Grand Prize in AlphaPoliss sixth Fantasy Novel Grand Prix. This recognition led to his commercial debut in 2014 when AlphaPolis began publishing the story as a light novel series with illustrations by Ririnra. The series ran for fourteen volumes, with the final volume released in March 2019.

The success of the light novels spawned a manga adaptation illustrated by Honoji, which began serialization on AlphaPoliss website in May 2015. As of October 2024, the manga has been compiled into thirteen volumes. The English language version of the manga is published by One Peace Books under the title Multi-Mind Mayhem, with the first volume released in September 2021. In March 2026, an anime television series adaptation was announced, with Yusuke Kobayashi cast as the protagonist Bard Cornelius.

The premise of Multi-Mind Mayhem exemplifies Takamis recurring creative identity. The story follows Bard Cornelius, a young nobleman who houses three souls within his body: his own consciousness, that of a cunning samurai named Oka Sanai, and Masaharu Oka, a modern day high school otaku. This three souls in one body concept allows Takami to blend military tactics, historical knowledge, and contemporary otaku culture within a fantasy setting.

Beyond Multi-Mind Mayhem, Takami has written several other light novel series. These include Aru Majo no Junan, a single volume work published in January 2015, Armadeianos no Eiyutan, a five volume fantasy series published between 2016 and 2017, and Arafo Shachiku no Golemu Masuta, a seven volume series published from 2017 to 2020. In 2021, he won the 9th Net Novel Grand Prize for his work The Fifth Prince Exiled to the Border, which was subsequently published as a light novel series in 2022.

Takami has publicly expressed admiration for historical novelist Yoshihiko Takahashi and has stated that he particularly enjoys writing history and fantasy. He was heavily influenced by the science fiction writer Haruka Takachiho during his middle school years. His works consistently demonstrate a fascination with combining historical elements, particularly from Japans Sengoku period, with fantasy world building and modern sensibilities.
