PONJEA
Description
PONJEA is the professional alias of Peng Jie, a Taiwanese manga creator born on September 6, 1982. He is recognized for being the first non-Japanese artist to have a work published in the influential Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Jump. Before adopting the PONJEA pen name, he created doujinshi under the name Renshewan. He holds a master's degree in architecture from National Cheng Kung University.
PONJEA is credited as the original creator of the manga Chronos Ruler, also known as Time Dominator. This action-fantasy series, which he wrote and illustrated, follows protagonists Viktor and Mist as they battle demons called "Chronos" that consume human time. The manga began serialization in China in 2014 and later appeared on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform in Japan starting in 2015. The work received the Silver Award for Best Story Manga at the 12th China Golden Dragon Award in 2015.
The series was adapted into a television anime titled Chronos Ruler, which aired in 2017. The animation was produced by the Japanese studio project No.9, marking a significant milestone as the first original manga from Taiwan to be broadcast on Japanese television. The anime was also simulcast across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Beyond Chronos Ruler, PONJEA has created several other original manga, including Story: Fairy Tales, the Ark Saga series, and 333APP. He has also collaborated as an illustrator on numerous projects, including the light novel adaptation of Reincarnated as a Sage in Another World and the manga Shinjuku DxD, written by Yuma Ando. His creative style is characterized by dynamic action sequences, fantasy settings, and detailed linework.
PONJEA holds considerable industry significance as a pioneering figure for non-Japanese creators in the Japanese manga market. His 2010 short manga Kiba x Kiba, created in collaboration with writer Riichiro Inagaki, was published in Weekly Shonen Jump, a first for a foreign artist. This achievement opened doors for subsequent international artists. He continues to be represented by the agency Friendly Land and maintains an active career with multiple series in simultaneous publication.
