Doufu Mayoi

Description
Doufu Mayoi is an original creator known for the Japanese light novel series and media franchise Black Summoner. Writing under the original name 迷井豆腐, Mayoi began the series as a web novel published online on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform in October 2014. The work was later acquired for print publication, with Overlap releasing the first volume of the light novel under its Overlap Bunko imprint in June 2016, featuring illustrations by Kurogin. This print version serves as the foundational source material for subsequent adaptations.

In the realm of manga, Doufu Mayoi is credited as the original author of Black Summoner, with the manga adaptation illustrated by Gin Ammo. This adaptation began serialization in Overlap’s Comic Gardo website in January 2018 and has been compiled into multiple tankōbon volumes. In all official publications, including English releases by J-Novel Club and Yen Press, Mayoi is consistently listed as the original work’s author, distinguishing this role from that of the manga illustrator.

The Black Summoner franchise expanded into animation with a television anime adaptation produced by the studio Satelight. The series aired from July to September 2022, with Doufu Mayoi credited as the original creator. The narrative follows Kelvin, a battle-enthusiast who is reincarnated in a fantasy world as a summoner, trading his past memories for powerful abilities. The franchise spans light novels, manga, and anime, with all iterations identifying Doufu Mayoi as the originator of the story and characters.
