Nujima
Description
Nujima is the writer and illustrator of the Japanese manga series Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi, also known in English as Mysterious Disappearances. This work represents Nujima’s most recent and widely recognized creation. Prior to this, Nujima authored Torako, Anmari Kowashicha Dame da yo, a series that concluded in June 2018.
The manga Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi began serialization on October 18, 2019, in the Yawaraka Spirits online manga platform published by Shogakukan. As of April 2025, the series has been compiled into nine tankōbon volumes, with the first volume released on April 10, 2020. The story follows Sumireko Ogawa, a bookstore clerk and aspiring novelist, and her enigmatic coworker Ren Adashino as they investigate a series of supernatural phenomena and urban legends. In July 2023, Seven Seas Entertainment announced that it licensed the series for English publication.
An anime television series adaptation produced by the studio Zero-G was announced on January 12, 2023. Upon the announcement, Nujima expressed gratitude, noting that the adaptation was decided after much effort, and thanked their editor and supporters. The anime was directed and written by Tomomi Mochizuki and aired for 12 episodes from April 10 to June 26, 2024. The series was broadcast on networks including AT-X and Tokyo MX and was streamed by Crunchyroll outside of Asia.
In 2020, the manga was nominated in the web category of the sixth Next Manga Awards. The series was also recommended by manga artist Akihito Tsukushi in 2021. The work is noted for its blend of mystery, supernatural elements, and urban folklore, centering on a protagonist who is a young adult navigating creative aspirations alongside inexplicable events.
