Yū Godai

Description
Yu Godai is a Japanese writer known for work across novels, video games, and manga. Born on August 7, 1970, in Nara Prefecture, Godai began her career while still a university student. She was the first recipient of the grand prize in the fourth annual Fantasy Novel Prize sponsored by Fujimi Shobo for her work The Story of the Beginning of Bone, making her debut shortly before that novel’s official publication.

Godai’s career includes a significant role in the video game industry, where she was contracted by Atlus to draft the story for the Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga series. She left the project before its completion due to health issues but retained the contractual right to publish her own novelization based on the game’s setting. This resulted in the Quantum Devil Saga series, published by Hayakawa Bunko.

In the realm of manga, Godai is credited as the story writer for The Ancient Magus’ Bride: Jack Flash and the Faerie Case Files. This series is a spin-off of Kore Yamazaki’s popular The Ancient Magus’ Bride franchise. The story follows Jack Flash, a faerie-born detective, and her human brother Larry as they run an agency in New York City handling cases that intersect the human and faerie realms. The manga is illustrated by Mako Oikawa, with series creator Kore Yamazaki serving as script supervisor. The series was originally published in Japan by MAG Garden Corporation starting in 2019 and has been released in English by Seven Seas Entertainment.

Beyond these projects, Godai has authored a substantial body of literary works. These include the novel Seimeikiden, Glass no Rose (Glass no Bara), and the Paracelsus no Musume series. She has also contributed new volumes to the long-running Guin Saga novel series.
