Shinya Komi
Description
Shinya Komi is a Japanese manga artist known for creating the original series Ex-Vita and for providing the artwork for its successor and remake, Ex-Arm. His earliest credited serialized work is Ex-Vita, which he both wrote and illustrated. The series was published in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Miracle Jump from December 2011 to April 2013 and was later compiled into two tankōbon volumes.
Komi is best known for his work on Ex-Arm. While Ex-Vita was his own creation, Ex-Arm is a manga series written by HiRock and illustrated by Shinya Komi. The series is explicitly a remake of Komi's earlier Ex-Vita and was serialized in Shueisha's Grand Jump from February 2015 to December 2017 before moving to the Shōnen Jump+ website, where it ran from December 2017 to June 2019. Shueisha collected the chapters of Ex-Arm into fourteen tankōbon volumes. A sequel manga titled Ex-Arm EXA, also illustrated by Komi, was serialized from August 2019 to February 2021 and compiled into two volumes.
In addition to the main series and its sequel, Komi illustrated other works set in the same universe. He provided the illustrations for Ex-Arm: Another Code, a manga adaptation of the novel Ex-Arm the Novel Deus Ex Machina. His other credited manga works include D'z and Sora o Matotte.
Komi's work on Ex-Arm was adapted into an anime television series that aired from January to March 2021. For this adaptation, Shinya Komi is officially credited with the original character design. Beyond the Ex-Arm franchise, his creator profile is defined by his long-standing association with Shueisha's seinen publications and his role in developing a science fiction property across multiple formats, including serialized manga, sequel series, and an anime adaptation.
